The paper presented compares the results of expert questioning dedicated to the Internet development in Russia with the results of several public opinion polls on the same subject. This gives both the opportunity to see the trends of the Internet development in Russia and the opportunity to learn the differences in opinions of experts and common people. This paper also maintains that expert questioning is more useful than public opinion polls in examination of the processes and trends in the Internet development, a character of authorities' impact on the Internet, the degree of the Internet impact on authority structures, the main tendencies of information society formation in Russia.
