Existing the Internet-based information systems devoted to specific knowledge disciplines play an important role in providing access to information resources and channels specialists to communicate with each other.
Institutes of Humanities Department of the Russian Academy of Science have expressed the need to establish united information space to be used by institutes of social and economic profile (UIS). It is planned to establish such space on the basis of already existing services and means of "Socionet" system (http://socionet.ru/): the idea is to unite information resources of separate institutes.
The level of institutes involvement in this process depends on a number of factors.
1. Presence of a "critical mass" of publications, which will make it attractive for researchers to publish their research findings in this information space.
2. Acknowledgement of electronic publications as equal to printed publications by All-Russian Attestation Commission for purposes of thesis defense.
3. Possible material motivation of the participants.
4. Convenience in usage and prompt distribution of the research materials.
